Do you keep hearing about social media, but feel left out? Not sure where or how to start, or if it’s even the right fit for your church library or ministry? Want to learn how your church library can use social media to promote your collections, and to engage Christian readers and media users?

This FREE workshop, hosted by the Southern California Chapter of ECLA, will explain the different types of social media and their primary demographics, while showcasing good examples of how libraries and ministries use these tools for marketing and outreach.

Workshop Logistics

Date: Saturday, August 30th, 2014 (rescheduled from May 31st, 2014)

Time: 10:15am* – 12:15pm (workshop)

  • 12:15pm – 12:45pm (optional library tour)
  • 1:00pm (optional lunch)

Location: The Pollak Library (room PLN 303), Cal State Fullerton (maps & directions)

Parking: Free on weekends. Lots I and F are closest (handicap spots available)

Format: Presentation/Demo with some hands-on learning components.

  • 30 Desktop PCs available
  • You are welcome (and encouraged!) to BYOD (bring your own device/s): laptops, tablets, and smart phones (free wifi), but please keep in mind that we cannot help you troubleshoot these devices.

*The Pollak Library opens its doors at 10:00am on Saturdays. You are welcome to bring coffee mugs or water bottles (that have a lid) into the computer lab; no open containers allowed.

There are many lunch choices near to campus: Panera, Don Jose’s, Thai Basil, and others.

About the Instructor

Colleen Greene, MLIS, is a librarian, web developer, educator, and content strategist who regularly teaches and presents on social media and emerging technology topics. She has been using social media personally and professionally for over 11 years. Colleen serves on the Rose Drive Friends Church Library Committee and with her church Blog Team. She is President of the Southern California chapter of the Evangelical Church Library Association, and the Web Coordinator for the ECLA national organization.
