OVERVIEW

You might think, like I did, that the title of this book indicates that David Sheppard, very famous cricketer, played the game in order to help the poor. No, rather he went to bat for the poor, for the needs of those in the inner city, for their employment and their self respect.

This is Sheppard’s biography of every aspect of his life from birth to his death in 2005 at the age of 75. He was many things; a son and brother, husband, father, grandfather, cricketer, Bishop of Liverpool and a man of God who championed the needy.

Bradstock’s book will inspire and encourage readers to loftier goals but it is not an easy read. Highly detailed and annotated, this will not be speedy but well worth the time and effort.
