OVERVIEW
This movie is based on the bestselling book series by Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye and stars Kirk Cameron and Brad Johnson. It chronicles the lives of several characters as they are left behind after the Rapture. They must come to understand the Biblical ramifications of the times they live in as well as thwarting the plots of the Antichrist for world domination.
This movie’s setting was contemporary for its time (late 90’s- early 2000’s) but may seem pretty dated to today’s audience.
ASSESSMENT
Rating (1 to 5)
4 out of 5 stars
Suggested Audience
This movie presents a great opportunity for discussions of Christian belief and prophecy about the end times, especially for teens and Christians unfamiliar with Revelation.
Christian Impact
There is a firm grounding in God’s Word in this movie, as in the books themselves. The prevailing backdrop of the end times as set out in Revelation, informs the entire plot. Scenes where characters discuss Bible events and prophecy are sprinkled throughout and help to educate those unfamiliar with the apocalyptic timeline. The characters also regularly pray for discernment and the Lord’s direction of their actions.
Other Notes
For readers, the Left Behind series is excellent and there are 13 volumes in the series for the dedicated enthusiast.
Not all denominations agree with the events as laid out in this movie and book series.
