OVERVIEW

This book is a multi-faceted collection of contemporary art, classic song lyrics, uplifting Bible verses, and inspirational quotations. It is a reminder of God’s truth presented in a format of eye-catching layouts and designs. Incorporating the work of 25 artists—all listed in the back of the book—We Are So Blessed seeks to celebrate the Lord’s guidance and generosity. The almost-pocketsize book is a collaborative work assembled by Jocelynn Pedro. Workman Publishing has released several previous books similar in format to We Are So Blessed, including Prayer Is a Door into the Hospitality of God’s Home, Rejoice in the Lord Always, and He Is Mighty to Save. This latest small book would be a nice surprise for a friend—particularly a new Christian or someone in need of encouragement—as a birthday present, stocking stuffer, or graduation gift.

This collection seeks to remind its readers of God’s countless blessings—no matter what an individual might be going through. It is full of vibrant color and encouraging passages from the Bible, insights from famous theologians, and lyrics from beloved hymns. When I first encountered the book, I imagined it as a devotional, so I was surprised at the brevity of each page/passage. Because each page has only a few words, it can be difficult for a reader to know how to read the book.  However, anyone who picks up the book looking for encouragement, an introduction to the Word, or for beautiful art, he or she will not be disappointed. We Are So Blessed could be thought of as a book of proverbs—not meant to be digested all at once, but rather to be pondered and enjoyed. While not a stand-alone devotional, We Are So Blessed gives its reader the opportunity to encounter the Lord and to worship Him in fresh ways.
