Title: Evidence That Demands a Verdict: Updated and Expanded Classic

Author: Josh McDowell and Dr. Sean McDowell

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

Publication Date: October 3, 2017

Format: Hardbound book

Length: 798 pages

When the original version of this book was published in 1972 as an evangelistic tool for members of Campus Crusade for Christ, no one could have guessed it would stay in print for 45 years and sell more than a million copies.  Since that time, although the scriptural and historical evidence used in the original version has not gone out of date, many changes have occurred in the world, prompting modern skeptics to search for answers to new challenges.  Today’s seeker faces online pornography, sanctioning of same-sex marriages, legalization of marijuana, and numerous other anti-Christian behaviors that were not prevalent 45 years ago. Thus, this new edition of the book confronts those matters, expands on earlier proclamations, amplifies scriptural lessons, and adds in charts, graphics, and illustrations.

Some of the specific areas the new version examines intensely include how to identify false religions, how to repulse cults, how to recognize and expose heretics, and how to maintain a strong testimony in an age of depravity.  The core of the book is an effort to present truth and to verify the strength of the gospel message. This text has a vast bibliography and detailed index, making it a good reference tool, but it also can be read in stages for those who wish to affirm their faith or to discover a reason for having a deep commitment to Jesus.
