ASSESSMENT

Rating (1 to 5)

5 stars

Suggested Audience

This book is for anyone who is serious about accomplishing goals in their life, making an impact in the world, and living their life for God, whether in ministry or secular work.

Christian Impact

Most of us know the verse, “Whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God” (I Corinthians 10:31). This book gets to the nitty gritty of how to do this in your life. Referring to I Cor. 15:58,”Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain,” the author answers the question, “How can we abound in the work of the Lord more fully?” He also contends that as Christ followers, ALL our work should be missional and impact the culture in a gospel-centered way.

Other Notes:

Prepare to spend some time with this book as it is not a quick read! Reading this book compels you to reflect on segments of your own life and work throughout each chapter.
I did find it slightly difficult to follow completely until I became more acquainted with the book’s methodology. The author does state in the introduction that his aim is “not to give the full process, but to provide brief insights on how to get unstuck from specific issues surrounding personal effectiveness.” Since there are so many specific issues, it can be a lot to digest. He also states that it integrates with his previous book, “What’s Best Next.” While these are not meant to be read in any particular order, I felt slightly lost not having read it first. In spite of this it was such a valuable read that I gave it five stars and will be putting “What’s Best Next” on my reading list as well.
