OVERVIEW

In the wake of Earth’s mysterious “Dark Age” in which Earth’s former inhabitants have no record of their past, humans have journeyed to space with the help of different species of aliens. For years, there has been peace between worlds and species. That is, until a faceless and seemingly unbeatable foe shatters that peace.

While many people are sent out to fight this new enemy, Commander Jared Carter of the interstellar Confederate Navy is sent on what appears to be a wild goose chase. Soon enough, Carter and his crew of six are sent to track down some long-lost religious parchments that are believed to hold the key to defeating the enemy. Some of the crew believe this quest to be a waste of time, but their discovery may just be the Confederacy’s last hope.

Edge of Oblivion tells a well-balanced and enchanting story of a crew trying to save innocent lives through unconventional means. The new world is enticing and complex, the different species are all well thought out and unique, and it is easy to root for the main characters. Best of all, the narrative keeps you wanting more of the story until the very last pages.

Initially, Christians (dubbed “Sarconians” in the book) have a bit of a bad rap for being eccentric and referred to as unintelligent fanatics by just about everyone. However, when you meet some of them, you start to see that they are not at all like how they are viewed. They are kind, compassionate, and willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of others, just as Christians ought to live.

Other Notes

This book is only for serious sci-fi lovers. It takes a while to get used to the names and alien species, and to discover all of the history that you need to know to understand the plot. Because of the vast new world of new planets and galaxies, the story gets confusing at points, particularly at the beginning.
