Keynote Speakers: Dave and Neta Jackson

Keynote Address: “What is your mission: Is your library for Dufflepuds? Or Dawn Treaders?

Do you have a mission statement for your church library? A vision is a lofty goal, but a mission statement will help you navigate the sometimes tricky waters of administrative supervision (which can sometimes feel like control), along with budget constraints and complaints from patrons. Libraries, however–including church libraries–should bravely invite readers to expand their horizons, try new authors, be willing to read the differing perspectives on theological and social issues that exist even within the evangelical church. “Dufflepuds” just want to please everybody and play it safe. Sailing with the “Dawn Treader,” however, might involve some risks–but God’s world is even bigger than we realize.
