OVERVIEW

What does it mean to be “overprotective” in a relationship? What does it look like to build healthy boundaries (or perhaps be more accepting)? Scott Vaudrey uses his experience as a pastor and relationship coach to explain the key steps to assessing what’s making a relationship hard and then choosing to either build a bridge or set a boundary.

Vaudrey tackles a subject that can feel like a minefield with so much bad relationship advice (or good advice that can be misused) out there. He proves he’s more than up to the task however, and gives excellent advice on how to pursue healthy relationships. Along the way, he admits honestly the relationship mistakes he’s made, creating a bond with readers. An excellent book on a topic everyone should know something about.

ASSESSMENT

Rating (1 to 5 stars)

4 stars

Suggested Audience

People seeking advice on how to resolve relational conflict and create space for healthier living.

Christian Impact

Vaudrey writes his ideas in a way that anyone (Christian or non-Christian) can appreciate, but his ideas clearly fit into a Judeo-Christian worldview, which he occasionally refers to. Although the book may not fit the “Christian counseling” or “spiritual development” label, it gives readers a biblically based framework for handling conflict.
