Overview:

November 1867, Independence, Indiana. Marybeth’s father has just passed away leaving her with her little sister to raise on her own. The pastor arrived and attempted to give the child to church members who have no children.

A widowed neighbor, a friend of the family, receives an offer to move West. Marybeth is fearful the pastor will actually forcibly take her sister from her. When her friend Edward is offered this relocation, he proposes a marriage of convenience to Marybeth so she and her sister can accompany him. Hardships and trials ensue but so does falling in love!
