OVERVIEW

Christianity is a Jewish faith. That is, you need to understand the way Judaism views things to fully experience everything Christ has in store for you and wants you to do with your life. That’s what Curt Landry claims in this book. He spends some of the chapters describing his personal journey, how becoming a Christian changed his life and then how discovering that his biological mother was Jewish opened up new dimensions for his faith. Then Landry spends the rest of the time explaining how seeing Christianity through a Jewish lens (such as how Judaism understanding “righteousness”) allows people to fully understand the Bible and therefore experience more blessings.

One of the great difficulties in writing a book like this is that many Christians assume Jewish people have lost the blessings God gave them in the past and that now only Gentile Christians are the chosen people of God. Landry does an excellent job of explaining that view doesn’t fit Scripture and that it really comes from anti-Semitic political decisions that early church leaders made. Landry also explains very eloquently how much Greco-Roman philosophy has influenced Western Christianity and some problems that has created. However, he describes these ideas in a gentle way, making it clear Christians can overcome these mistakes and discover the power of Christianity’s Jewish heritage.
