Introduction
Title: Brief Insights on Mastering Bible Study
Author: Michael S. Heiser
Publisher: Zondervan
Publication Date: 2018
Format: Paperback
Length: 184 pages
OVERVIEW
“Effective Bible Study doesn’t conform to a method,” Michael S. Heiser says in this book’s preface. A few sentences later, he explains this is true because “books of the Bible can be quite different, so they don’t conform to a canned approach.” So, in Brief Insights to Mastering Bible Study, Heiser chooses not to give readers a one-size-fits-all method for doing Bible studies. Instead, he describes basic principles people should use in all Bible studies, including the best resources to use and common mistakes to avoid.
Heiser mines his own experience (as someone who’s done many Bible studies and taught many Bible classes) to explain his principles in this book. Consequently, readers will find many great insider tips (such as what kinds of commentaries to use for different kinds of Bible study) in this book. They will also find plenty of sage advice based on misconceptions that Heiser has heard and had to refute on many occasions (such as whether having “childlike faith” means people have no reason to deeply study the Bible).
All in all, this book is the perfect primer for anyone looking to start studying the Bible or interested in doing deeper studies.
