Publication Date: 2018
Format: Paperback

OVERVIEW
What does it take to beat addictions? For that matter, what behaviors count as addictions? Dr. Gregory L. Jantz and Anne McMurray answer these questions and others in this book, using Jantz’s many years of experience as a therapist along with current medical research to describe how to recognize an addiction, overcome it, and learn to live without it.
The writing is occasionally repetitive with its many references to the Center, the Washington-based treatment facility Dr. Jantz founded, and sometimes to groups the Center partners with. Self-promotion aside though, this book gives a great overview of the factors that cause people to become addicts and what addicts need to recognize about themselves before they find healing. The book does a particularly good job of describing how childhood trauma or poor parenting can create psychological issues that lead people into becoming addicts.
Readers seeking addiction treatment tips that reflect Christian principles, but which anyone can relate to, will also find this book very helpful.
