Overview:

Castle of refuge is a lovely romance set in late 14th century England. Audrey and Maris are sisters, both lovely young women, but Maris, having been cruelly treated by a nurse at a young age, has a psychotic hatred and jealousy of her sister. Maris trips Audrey purposefully and she falls into a fire, scarring the side of her face. Four years of peace while Maris lives in a convent is ended when she is to return home and Audrey married to an older man. Fearing for her life, Audrey runs and ends up finding safety in Derricot Castle.

Romance, suspense, revenge, all abound in this retelling of the Ugly Duckling by bestselling and award winning author Melanie Dickerson.
