This is an Alaskan wilderness adventure of the heir to Sky King Ranch, Pilot Dodge Kingston.  But after a fall out within his family, Dodge leaves to become a pararescue jump. He does not return for ten years, never knowing how things might be within the family when he returns. Search and rescue for guide. One discovery is that his childhood friend (and the one he truly loves), Echo Yazzie, is living a life that Dodge believes could get her killed. She not only lives as a true Alaskan with all that entails – dogsledding, homesteading, etc. – but she is a research guide for the DNR. When one of her researches is missing, Echo sets out in a blizzard to find her! Dodge, of course, cannot let Echo and the researcher endure the elements and determines to rescue them..
