Roxannah is the daughter of a disgraced Persian lord who is abusive, especially when drinking. Roxannah has worked very hard to keep her family fed and she has dreams of one day cooking for the king and queen at the palace. Mysteries and also sad realizations follow her employment but companionship does turn to love.
