Roxannah is the daughter of a disgraced Persian lord who is abusive, especially when drinking. Roxannah has worked very hard to keep her family fed and she has dreams of one day cooking for the king and queen at the palace. When her Jewish friends are threatened she doesn’t know how to help them. But she does approach the royal physician Adin and asks for his help in finding employment in the kitchen of Queen Esther. Mysteries and also sad realizations follow her employment but companionship does turn to love.
