OVERVIEW

Laura Beth Yoder, a young Amish widow with no children, is considering moving to another community. She longs for a family of her own and feels there are few eligible males living in her area. One evening during a horrific thunderstorm, Laura Beth saves the life of Joshua King and his baby Caleb, their car swept away in the flood. Having lost everything in the waters, Joshua is forced to stay for at least a short time with Laura Beth and her sister until he can get a job and get on his feet. But there is a “fly in the ointment” so to speak. Joshua has also been widowed, very recently, and his wife asked that their son be given to her Amish parents to raise. Laura Beth feels the baby belongs with his father but who is she to say? She has fallen in love with baby Caleb, is she also falling in love with his father?

Amish fiction writers are striving for new and unique Amish plots – this one is unusual and well written. Fans of Davids or Amish fiction in general will enjoy it.

ASSESSMENT

Rating (1 to 5):

4

Suggested Audience:

Particularly fans of Amish fiction.

Christian Impact:

Some decisions are very difficult to make, sometimes we have others to consider and sometimes the promises we have made. The Wish takes these into account and puts God into the equation.
