Overview:

Ten-year-old Pax Jackson has cancer. He and his friend Jayni meet a delightful cast of characters who take them on a magical adventure. This story is made of the stuff kids love to read about, except for one thing; Pax has cancer. He is not sure if he will even make it to his next birthday. This story, written by Colleen Chao, who herself is dealing with incurable cancer, takes us on a journey that recognizes hard, truly impossible moments in life but with the element of hope that our great King is in charge and will help us make it through. I read this book with two of my grandkids and marveled at the way Colleen describes pain, hardship, lack of desire to keep going, but then bringing the hard moments back around in a gentle way to make it not only palatable but realistically possible. This is done in a delightful way to the reader and listener. I thoroughly enjoyed this memorable book and know that Colleen has written a hopeful message about a difficult topic.
