Dr. Meyer uses a compilation of stories, including her own, to create Defying Fear, the story of Dr. Lila Frost who is consistently abused by her husband, also a doctor. Lila feels she still loves her husband and does not actually realize the way her husband treats her is abuse. When events come to a head in her marriage, with the support of friends and her renewed faith, Lila makes decisions to defy fear and become the woman that God has intended her to be.

This is a quick read, an inspiring story that will leave you considering the truths the author has shared. Each chapter is interestingly titled and includes a quote by various well known people such as Ani Difranco or Ghandi. And each chapter ends with an appropriate Scripture verse.

Our main character, Lila Frost, is being encouraged throughout the book to turn her problems over to the Lord. Scripture is quoted time and again.
