Overview:

Grace Mockingbird is fourteen when her little brother Isaac becomes very ill. It is also 1963 and their town is struggling with racial issues including the Ku Klux Klan. While her parents spend their time at the hospital, Aunt June, very fun and loving but inexperienced at parenting, cares for Grace and her older sister. Grace also has a very caring teacher whose influence means a lot but the circumstances in her life continue to mount one upon the other until the worst actually occurs!

This is a wonderful coming-of-age story that will stay with the reader long after the final page.
