Overview:

Catherine Corlis and Mary Todd Lincoln meet in a graveyard and meet over their grief in the loss of a child. The setting, of course, is during the Civil War. This friendship overlays the entire story, despite very few encounters between Catherine and Mary.

Catherine’s innocence was taken from her by the local brothel owner and finds herself shunned by many of the local townspeople. Despite this, the birth of her child is the light of her life and when that light goes out, Catherine must find the strength to go beyond her grief and find direction in her life. Her heart is warm and compassionate yet she is not always treated that way by others.

This is a story of love and loss set in one of the most turbulent times of our country.
