(Book Review) Wasted Prayer

Wasted PrayerReviewed by: Taylor Puitz, writing student

Introduction

Title: Wasted Prayer: Knowing When God Wants You Stop Praying and Start Doing

Author: Greg Darley

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

Publication Date: July 2014

Format: Print Book

Length: 181 Pages

OVERVIEW

Many people pray about what God has asked them to do. Darley encourages the reader to make prayer a starting point but then to start taking action to put feet to their prayers. He suggests prayer can be a form of procrastination that people use out of fear. To overcome this, he suggests ways people can stop praying re-actively and start praying proactively.  He believes that many people are stuck in a “Religious Cycle” of prayer: reactive prayer; instead, they need to be in a “Discipleship Cycle” of prayer: proactive prayer. Through various stories Darley shows how doing this instead of only praying helps bring individuals closer to God. These stories include personal experience, passages from the Bible, and accounts from various missionaries, pastors, and other Christians.
