Introduction

Title: A Year of Feasting: Manual on the Seven Feasts of God

Author: Sonya A. Mozingo

Publisher: Archway Publishing

Publication Date: June 2014

Format: Paperback

Length: 175 pages

OVERVIEW

This is a beginner’s handbook on observing seven ancient Jewish feasts in the modern day.

The author provides detailed lists of the decorations and foods needed in order to celebrate each feast, as well as scripts to follow during the ceremonies. Printable handouts to use in the feasts are included at the back of the book.

This is not a handbook for those interested in strict historical accuracy. Although the scripts are based in the Jewish traditions, the author has obviously expanded upon them. Sometimes it is unclear whether parts of the scripts are meant to be spoken in the ceremony or if they are the author’s personal opinion. Also, the handbook does not list the dates when the feasts should be observed, which might leave readers wondering where to begin.

Despite these problems, the handbook gives a good overview. Readers will gain an understanding of how Jews have celebrated these feasts in past centuries. But those who are truly interested in observing the feasts of God will want to refer to another, more in-depth guide in addition to this one.
