Overview:

This story begins in 1947 after the end of World War II in the southern part of the United States. Young unmarried Christian women are recruited to be teachers in Louisiana. Having grown up in Alabama, Ellie Fields feels good about this new venture. Little did she know the challenges she would face: taking a boat to work and teaching not a single class but a group of sixty students.

Many themes are included in Under the Bayou Moon such as young love, acceptance of a different life style, wealth versus poor, good versus bad, black versus white. This is a well blended story of acceptance and survival.
