Derek Bird

Publisher:

Fusionbooks

Publication date:

2021

Format:

Paperback

Length:

194 pages

Overview:

This book will really appeal to fly fishermen. It is filled with descriptions and anecdotes about this pastime. There are several scenarios going on in Last summer on the Sage including the relationship between the threesome, Ryan, his best friend and his best friend’s sister, Jane. Right at the start Ryan and Jane run into a group of unruly men. When Ryan attempts to defend Jane’s honor and protect her, he ends up unconscious, being carried away in the river.

Throughout the book, Ryan is searching for his father, searching for trout and figuring out what he should do about his newly discovered love for Jane. The writing and descriptions are really beautiful. Everything ties together very neatly at the end of this book-in this reviewer’s opinion, perhaps too nearly.

Rating:

4 out of 5

Suggested audience:

Older teens and adults, particularly those interested in fly fishing

Christian impact:

There is a Christian worldview in this book
