332 pages
Overview:
This is the fourth and last book in the Leah’s Garden series, this one focusing on the oldest Nielsen sister, Larkspur. After reading each book, I feel as if these family members are good friends of mine. Of course that caused many tears throughout this sweet and touching book set in frontier-era Nebraska.
Larkspur, or Lark as she is usually called, is headstrong and hardworking and tends to carry the weight of the world and particularly her family on her shoulders. Forced to flee their home in Ohio because of some reckless choices, that now hangs over her head! Lark is attracted to Isaac McTavish and it seems that he returns the affection. Lark longs for a husband and family but cannot trust herself to begin a relationship.
You can read this as a stand-alone book but for the true understanding of the lovely Nielsen family and their life in Nebraska, read the entire series. It is well worth it!
Rating:
5 out of 5
Suggested audience:
Fans of historical fiction
Christian impact:
One major characteristic throughout the story is loyalty, particularly loyalty in the Nielsen family and between the four sisters. But loyalty to their Lord and Savior and commitment to him are also strong parts to this story.
