Overview
The focus of Hall’s book Did America Have a Christian Founding focuses on Christianity’s role in the founding of America. When supporting his points, Hall uses primary documents almost exclusively.
The chapters discuss common myths about the beliefs of America’s Founding Fathers. Chapter 1 discusses “The Myth of the Founders’ Deism,” debunking the idea that the Founding Fathers were Deists. Chapter 2 debunks the notion that the Constitution is “Godless.” Chapter 3 discusses religious freedom established in the First Amendment. Chapter 4 argues that government should protect and promote religion. Chapter 5 discusses the Founders’ belief in religious liberty.
Hall cites documents written around the same time as America’s Constitution, including pamphlets, articles, and state constitutions. He predicts the Founders’ motivations and beliefs through research and deduction. At the end of each chapter, Hall suggests articles for further reading on each subject.

People who insist the Founders were Deists and the church has no place in American politics may not like this book. However, it is a good resource to understand the opposing view.
