Overview:

This was a hard book to review. I have a passion for rights of Indians since I was a missionary with my husband for 25 years to the Iroquois Indians in Canada. That said, I’m always interested in Indians. The time is 1587 and Elinor Dare sails to the New World with her husband. She is pregnant with her first child and filled with hope for her family and their new life. The colony of Roanoke has an educated Indian, Sees Far by name,  for a friend. He was helpful yet others of their tribe wanted to kill white people for taking their land and necessities (food and animals). A past group of settlers had killed an Indian so some also wanted revenge. The men left in charge of the colony are killed and Elinor is kidnapped. The story is interesting as her witness impacts her kidnapper to release her and embrace her beliefs. The story makes the readers wonder what might have happened at the lost colony of Roanoke.  I very much liked the book.
