OVERVIEW
When I began publishing women of the Bible in 1998, I found research resources sadly lacking on the topic. Aside from a dusty copy of H. V. Morton’s Women of the Bible published in 1941 (which I located at a dingy used book store in Long Grove, Ill.), I was limited, for the most part, to the few paltry comments made about Bible women in passing, as commentators pushed through to more important topics.
In the decades since, many women authors have added volumes of research and practical comment to the discussion of the critical roles women play in the story of Scripture. And that’s been so helpful.
I expected Tell Her Story to be more of the same, until I read Dr. Gupta’s bio. He is professor of New Testament at Northern Seminary. He is a recognized scholar. And he is not only writing on, but championing, the marvelous stories of Bible women. He points to solid references in the Word that God called and gifted women not only as wives and mothers, but also as teachers and leaders and influencers. This holds true in both Testaments and especially as the early church was growing during the first century.
I’ve already quoted from Tell Her Story as a valuable resource as I write and prepare presentations.
My recommendation is that you read this book. Share it with your pastor. And let’s together give a clear picture of the way our Creator used and continues to use both genders in powerful ways to accomplish His mighty plans.
