Overview:

Author Jessica Brodie has won and been nominated for many awards for this excellent book. It’s about desperation and humiliation yet love and mercy and grace.

Rebecca Chastain had never entertained ideas of returning to Dahlia, South Carolina. But when she longer has a job or a fiancé, there might just be no other place to turn to. In her previous life, Rebecca had been a big city journalist but now is reduced to a newspaper job in her grandmother’s hometown of Dahlia. The only redeeming quality is connecting with Josh, a childhood friend. But there is also Devon, a young boy who is taking care of his Memaw. Being the journalist that she is, Rebecca is sure those eyes of his are hiding something, perhaps stories too horrible to repeat. He has grabbed at Rebecca’s heart.
